Can You Have Full Upper Denture Only?

Uncategorized
Do you have missing teeth only on your upper jaw? Read on to find out if it is possible to get a full upper denture without a lower one.

Are you interested in receiving only a full upper denture? Or maybe you want to know what partial dentures are? Poor dental health and tooth decay might become increasingly common as we age. According to a CDC poll, 20% of individuals 65 and older and 26% of adults 75 and older have lost all of their teeth.

Dentures can be the best option for you if you’re missing part or all of your teeth. Since they mimic real teeth and restore oral function, dentures are a great solution for missing teeth. Also, to ensure the greatest possible fit and function, dentists customize your dentures to fit your particular mouth and bite.

How Do Partial Dentures Work?

In contrast to complete dentures, partial dentures are used to replace a few teeth rather than the entire mouth. Also, you must still have some natural teeth in your mouth in order to wear partial dentures.

Dentures are frequently created by dentists using a combination of acrylic resin and metal. Though more expensive and prone to cracks or chips, porcelain dentures are also an option.

There are two primary types of partial dentures:

  • Removable partial dentures (RPD)
  • Fixed partial dentures (FPD)

These two forms of dentures both replace a few teeth, but as their names imply, one is removable and the other is fixed in place. Your dentist will recommend the type of partial dentures he or she believes would fit you best based on your dental health.

For a Partial Denture, How Many Teeth Do You Need to Have?

To have partial dentures, you must have some healthy teeth in your mouth. Although an exact number of teeth is not required, you will at the very least need one healthy tooth on either side of the gap that needs to be filled.

Removable partial dentures are held in place by the natural teeth that they adhere to and use as anchors. Your RPD won’t have something to cling to if your teeth aren’t in good health.

Can You Get Upper Dentures Only?

Yes, getting only upper dentures is an option. Dentists utilize partial dentures to fill up spaces in your mouth where your natural teeth formerly sat, whether they were lost due to tooth decay, trauma, or otherwise. You can obtain a partial denture to fill in the gaps if your upper jaw is the only area where teeth are missing. Similarly, you can also get bottom dentures alone. If you only have missing teeth in your bottom jaw, then you don’t need to get dentures for your upper teeth.
